Wigmore Farm Management
Wigmore has a long history in Saskatchewan farming and as we look ahead we understand that our future success will require a blend of past experiences, lessons learned and new innovative thinking. We are professionals in the business of global food production. Our goal is to manage our resources well, grow crops that the world values and create diverse jobs for the next generation of skilled farmers both domestically and internationally. Much of this is done with fellow growers... possibly you.
It Starts With the Land
For more than 100 years, in the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada, the Wigmore Farm has been producing the world's most essential commodity... food. We consider it our business to use resourceful land to grow grains, oilseeds and pulse crops in order to meet the needs of a growing world. We respect the traditions of past generations while readily adopting new technology. We consider ourselves good stewards of the land and work hard to ensure the environmental sustainability of this most valuable asset.
Making Changes to the Traditional Model
Traditionally run farm operations are owned and operated by a farming family and when possible passed on to the next generation by way of a succession plan. It's no secret that farming requires a great deal of capital each and every year in order to make land and equipment payments, purchase inputs and manage the cost of financing. Debt is not only commonplace in a farm business model, it is a risk often necessary for success. So when the transfer of a farm to the next generation occurs so does the transfer of debt, and in many cases the stress of financial burden. But what if a farmer could be guaranteed a wage and freedom from the seasons' financial worries? What if a farmer's income wasn't entirely dependent on mother nature? What if the next generation wants to farm but doesn't have the capital?
